On Friday night- the start to a fabulous Father's Day weekend, I made Damien one of his favorite dinners and we gave him the Father's Day gifts that were too big to bring to his parent's house the next day. We sat outside eating dinner when we looked up at the sky and thought it looked strange. Sure enough, when we went around the corner of our house where we have a better view of the horizon, we saw this amber colored sky in the distance. The sky was still blue above us- but we knew it was only a matter or time before we were covered with it, too. We knew that the color of the sky was due to a terrible fire in the mountains just south of us- but to see the way it affected the sky was incredible. The sky wasn't the only thing we noticed- you could also detect a faint smell of smoke. The kids thought it was amazing. And to be honest- I have never seen a sky that color, either! It was crazy!

These pictures were probably taken around 9:00 p.m. just before we put the kids to bed. As the night got later and later, the sky just stayed the eerie orange/red color. When we woke up the next morning, there was a big article in the paper saying that there were many many calls made to 911 and local police departments about the color of the sky. It threw people into a panic! We also noticed the next morning that our outdoor table and Damien's car was covered with a light layer of ash. One thing is for sure- it was a sight we won't soon forget!
