Spring Fling

I absolutely love going to programs at the kids school. To think that some schools have cut their music program is just terrible! All it would take to let you know how important music is to some children is to go and watch how happy kids are when they are singing, dancing and/or listening to music. I imagine that for some kids who struggle with numbers and letters - music class would be a place where they could let go of their frustrations and be successful! I am thrilled with the music program at my kid's school. They are always coming home humming a new tune or telling me about upcoming musical surprises! Each class puts on one mass per year and I am guessing that they have about four performances per year. That is a lot of singing and preparation!

At this year's Spring Fling, the kids were buzzing with excitement. Matthew could hardly sit still knowing that Michael and Claire were sitting yards away from him! Each class sat quietly and waited their turn to sing and each performance was both precious and hilarious, too! Grades 1-4 perform but there are two sections per grade. That makes 8 performances that are awesome! This seasonal performance is one of my favorites. There is always a cute theme and the songs are great for kids but appeal to adults, too. It's kind of along the lines of how the movie Shrek is funny to both young and old! Michael's class sang a song about being best friends. They each wore a sign around their necks with a broken heart and walked up and stood on the risers looking great! When the music started, they linked with their neighbor to make a heart. It was pretty funny! Claire's class sang a really cute song called Music Makes Me Sing. Totally perfect for first graders to sing! All in all- Damien and I loved it! And Michael and Emily's opinion? The greatest show ever! They couldn't believe their brother and sister were on the big stage! Can't wait for more shows next year!!
