Summer Bike Ride

Our family loves to spend time outdoors in the summer.  The kids ride bikes a lot on the easement next to our house and up and down the street.  We also have an awesome bike trail right across the street so it gives us a lot of options!  Problem is- we have a lot of varying bike riding skill levels in the family.  Damien is almost ready to take his training wheels off, but he still lacks confidence so we are being patient with him.

We decided to take a family bike ride today on the trail.  The plan was, I was going to ride with Michael, Claire, and Matthew and Damien was going to walk next to Emily.  It sounded like a fool proof plan until we realized that Emily was NOT having it.  See, we figured since she got her bike less than a month ago- she would not be as fast as the other kids and would fall behind.  In reality- our little, determined gal pumped those pedals so fast and managed to stay close to the other kids.  But she couldn't quite keep up which frustrated the living heck out of her!  We tried holding the older kids back, but it wasn't fair to them.  So, I stayed back with Emily and Damien rode off with the kids.

It is so crazy to think that soon, we will all be able to ride together and keep up with one another.  For years, time went by so slowly and we never thought that taking a bike ride as a family was possible.  But here we are on the bike trail together.  I have no complaints.  Life is good.  Life is really, really good.

I agree. Maybe that is why he is so insecure.
