Today is an amazing day! Two years ago today, I met my sweet little Matthew for the first time. I will never forget how I was immediately bonded with him and how deeply in love I was from the minute they laid him on my chest. We waited patiently for him and had some tough times and boy was he worth it! I can't believe it has been a whole two years since that wonderful day.

Our agenda today was absolutely insane. It started off with bringing the kids to school and then quickly turning around to pick my Mom up at the airport. She flew in to be here for Matthew's birthday but also to celebrate Grandparent's Day at the kids school. After we got my Mom and brought her back to the house, I headed to my doctor's appointment. Damien then waited at the house for his parent's to arrive and then drove everyone to the school. When I got back from my appointment, it was just Damien, Matthew and I at home. We spoiled him and sang and danced for his birthday! After that, we went to the school, picked up the grandparents and then went out to lunch. Phew! (And it was only noon!)

For a large part of the afternoon, we all just relaxed and enjoyed our little Matthew. All day long, all he could talk about was Chuck E. Cheese. Because I am on limited activity, I knew I would need to have his party outside the house or I would over-do it. I asked Matthew where he wanted his birthday and without hesitating he answered,
chut chut cheese! So the plan was set and Matthew would have his birthday with the Chuckster. If given the chance, Matthew told everyone where he was going to have his birthday. He told them he was going to eat pizza. He told everyone that he was going to get blue cotton candy and root beer. He even told everyone he was going to be two (although he would hold up all five fingers when he said it). This kiddo was more than ready for his birthday and he couldn't believe the day was finally here!

Once he woke up from his afternoon nap, he was ready to open some presents! We decided that we would all give him his presents early because he would be so overwhelmed at his party. He was so excited to open his presents and everyone that gave him gifts gave him such personal, perfect little gifts. Matthew is into a lot of fun little things these days. The biggest thing is Elmo, followed by Sponge Bob, and he also loves all things Disney and shoes. Kind of an eclectic mix but it is what he likes! Daddy and Mommy gave him a mini rolling Elmo suitcase and Elmo slippers and he went berserk!

The party at Chuck E. Cheese was awesome! We had a lot of family and great friends join us for the chaos. The great part of having a party there is that they do everything for you. No set-up, clean-up, cooking, etc. But hard part is that for ninety minutes, you experience 100% craziness- but the kids LOVE it. First the kids are playing the games, then they come and eat pizza, then you eat cake, then Chuck E. comes, then you open gifts, then it is over. We had an absolute blast and Matthew really had a great time. There were few more kids that were Matthew's size at the party but they were a little too afraid of 'The Mouse' to pose for this picture. I was surprised at first that Matthew was a little bit nervous around Chuck E. Cheese. That changed pretty quickly and by the end- he was his best friend.

I had to include this picture because it is so sweet. It took Matthew a little bit to get used to Chuck E. Cheese (the mouse) but he was so sad after he had to go away. He had just blown out the candles on his cake with Chuck E. and the next thing he knows- his new best friend is leaving. It took a few minutes for him to calm down, but he eventually got control. Did I mention he was getting tired?

We loaded the car and got home thankfully in one piece! To add to the hysteria of the evening, Damien had to catch a plane to Barbados (more on that later). He had an 11:25 p.m. flight from San Francisco Airport and needed to leave the house at 9:00 p.m. to make it there on time. My Mom was going to stay with me while he was gone for the five day trip so I was looking forward to that. We got the kids dressed for bed and all three asleep just as Damien left. It was a crazy day but a special day as our little baby turned a BIG two years old!
