This week was packed with excite- ment! First we bought a new car, then it was Christmas Eve, then Christmas Day, then lots of events with family in town, and tomorrow is Damien's birthday. All of this brings us to today which happens to be a HUGE day in my world. I am 32 weeks! It feels amazing to be at this point in the pregnancy. It has been a lot of work to get to this point, but it feels great that no matter what, no one can take this away from me. I will just keep moving forward and making this baby healthier with each day!As I said earlier, this week has been jam packed with craziness. First off, we got a new car. Yes, my friends . . . we took the plunge and got a mini van. Call me a soccer mom, call me whatever you want. I love it and all it has to offer. The space in this van is amazing! I used to drive a Honda Accord which fit our family of 4 just fine. But it was difficult to take anyone else in the car with 2 booster seats in the back seat (Just ask my family how it felt to cram between the 2 seats when they were down to visit). We bought a new 2006 Toyota Sienna. Damien and I couldn't be happier and the kids love it, too. I wanted to make sure that we bought it before the baby arrived, so it is one more thing I can check off my mental 'To Do List'.
Christmas Eve was really nice. Since I am, in a lot of ways home-bound, Damien cooked a fabulous dinner for our little family. We read the kids passages from the Bible about Jesus' birth and talked about the real meaning of Christmas. We made cookies for Santa and made sure we had some carrots for the reindeer (pictured above). We put the kids to sleep and Damien and I took a few minutes to just sit and enjoy the Christmas tree and reflect on how blessed we truly are. Sure, this Christmas Eve was scaled down but when you are surrounded by your family, when you see the wonder of Christmas in your children's eyes, suddenly the spirit of the season wraps you up and makes you forget what is going on around you.
Christmas Day was really fun. The kids woke us up around 7:20 a.m. and couldn't wait to go downstairs to see if Santa had come. When we came down the stairs, Claire started screaming and Michael sprinted to his stocking and gifts. It was a Christmas morning to remember! We sat together and opened presents until the once full tree was bare. We had a nice breakfast and then enjoyed the visit from Damien's sister, Heather. I worked in a lot of bedrest in the morning and afternoon so that I would be able to go out later in the evening to my in-law's temporary apartment for Christmas dinner. It was a packed house and a lot of fun. I spent a great deal of time on one of the beds in the bedroom with my sister-in-law Jocelyn who was recovering from her ACL surgery. So the two of us bonded in bedrest together and watched "A Christmas Story" while trying to occupy the kids while dinner was being prepared. The dinner was delicious and the whole gang gathered afterward to exchange gifts and bring the night to a close.
Since then, we have been laying low at our house. We have been trying to get the kids back on a schedule (instead of going to bed at 11pm, we are shooting for 9pm), I have been focusing on not creating any pregnancy drama, Damien has been busy with work and keeping the house from falling apart, Damien's parents have been frequenting our house and keeping us fed and the laundry situation under control, his sisters and brothers have been by to keep me company and take the kids bowling (basically get them out of the house so they don't get cabin fever), and the kids and I are getting ready to celebrate Damien's 31st birthday tomorrow.
We have been very busy, but are so thankful for making it to 32 weeks! It is a great feeling to be here and I hope to get at least a few more weeks on the couch with the baby in my tummy. My next doctor's appointment is Tuesday and we hope to get more good news. I am doing pretty well with the bedrest but must admit that at times, I feel like the walls around me are closing in. But that is nothing that a few peanut m&ms can't fix! I am trying to continue to have a good attitude and work on getting through this one day at a time. The kids start school next week and it will be good to get back on a schedule again. Before we know it, we will be sitting here with a beautiful little baby and shaking our heads when we think back to the crazy holiday season we had. And I bet for a brief moment, I will look back fondly on my bedrest and wish that I could just lay on the couch all day instead of walking around all day like a sleep deprived new mommy! Here's to the rest of my unpredictable ride!
